April 15, 2026: What the Suspension of Dr. Aleksandar Curcin means for your Workers Compensation Claim.
WHY WAS DR. CURCIN SUSPENDED?
On May 5, 2026, the Commission issued an Ex Parte Order of Summary Suspension against Dr. Aleksandar Curcin, immediately suspending his license to practice medicine pending further disciplinary proceedings.
According to the Order, the Commission determined that Dr. Curcin is currently unable to practice medicine with reasonable skill and safety. This determination stems from an untreated and unmonitored health condition. He has also ceased participation in the Washington Physicians Health Program, which is designed to monitor and support physicians with health-related impairments. The Commission concluded that his continued practice presents an immediate danger to the public health and safety.
Dr. Curcin has performed medical evaluations, including Independent Medical Exams (IMEs), in workers’ compensation cases. These exams often play a critical role in determining whether an injury is work-related, the extent of disability, whether treatment is necessary, and whether a claim should be accepted, denied, or closed.
When a physician’s license is suspended based on concerns about their ability to safely and competently practice medicine, it can raise serious questions about prior medical opinions rendered during the period leading up to the suspension.
If you have a pending or recent workers’ compensation claim and Dr. Curcin conducted a
medical examination in the past several months, you should take action.
1. Contact Your Claims Manager Immediately: Raise your concerns about the credibility of
the examination and ask whether your claim relied on Dr. Curcin’s opinion and whether the
Department or insurer will reconsider decisions influenced by his report.
2. Document Your Concerns: Clearly state that the Washington Medical Commission has
found an inability to safely practice medicine and an immediate risk to public safety. These findings are directly relevant to the weight and reliability of his medical opinions.
3. Seek Legal Guidance: You should strongly consider contacting our office to discuss your
situation—especially if your claim was denied or restricted based on Dr. Curcin’s evaluation, you were found able to return to work despite ongoing symptoms, your benefits were reduced or terminated, or the Department took any action unfavorable to you.
WHY TIMING MATTERS
The suspension was based on findings that Dr. Curcin was impaired and not being monitored. This raises an important question: was that impairment present at the time he examined you? If so, it could significantly impact the fairness of your claim decision, the validity of independent medical exam findings, and your right to benefits and treatment.
Also, adverse decisions at the Department must be protested or appealed within 60 days of the order. If you have a pending order based on an examination by Dr. Curcin, you should contact legal counsel immediately.
If Dr. Curcin examined you as part of your workers’ compensation claim, do not ignore this development. You may have grounds to challenge prior medical opinions, request a new independent medical examination, or reopen or appeal decisions affecting your claim.
